Eye Examination

Regardless of any need for glasses, your eyes need regular check-ups just like your teeth.  Checking for any visual correction that may be required, such as the need for glasses or contact lenses, is a relatively small part of sight tests conducted at Duffy Optometrists.  We also thoroughly check the health of your eyes, and can detect early signs of eye disease like Glaucoma, Cataracts, or Macular Degeneration to name a few.

Having regular Sight Tests ensures that your eyes remain healthy, and any problems that may arise are dealt with early, which vastly increases the chances of successful treatment.

Our practices are equipped with the latest technology to ensure that we can give the most thorough, tailored sight tests available.  Where other Opticians test in 20 minute slots, we allow 30 minutes to guarantee that we will have time to discuss our findings with you, and answer any questions you may have.

How often should one have an eye examination?

Everyone should have a regular sight test, but how often is recommended?  The NHS guideline is as follows:

National guidelines for eye tests

1: Aged 15 years or below every year
2: Aged 16 – 69 years every 2 years
3: Aged 70 years and over every year
4: Diabetic and Glaucoma patients every year
5: Aged 40 years or over with an immediate relative with Glaucoma every year

Your Optometrist may recommend a different interval between tests based on their findings.  You will always be told when you should return for your next sight test, and we will let you know when you are due via your preference of a text or letter.

Note: the NHS will not fund early sight tests without reason.  If you are unsure if you are entitled to have an NHS funded sight test, please contact one of our practices and we will be able to advise you accordingly.
